MP backs homeless charity

Wednesday 21st December 2011

Bolton South East MP, Yasmin Qureshi, has paid tribute to homeless charity Crisis at Christmas, which has provided support, companionship and vital services to homeless people at Christmas time since 1972.

Adding her support to a House of Commons Early Day Motion this week, Yasmin acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the tens of thousands of volunteers and donors who have supported the charity since it began.

Yasmin also called for the Government to consider what changes could be made to ensure that all homeless people receive written advice, real assistance and emergency accommodation when they need it.

She said:

“While it is right to celebrate the lives helped and changed, it is a scandal that in twenty-first century Britain homelessness still exists and that a single homeless person can approach their local council for help and be turned away to sleep on the streets.”
