Today, I have written to the Energy Minister, Claire Perry, calling on the Government to cease its proposals to continue fracking in the North West.

Abundant evidence has shown that fracking is destructive towards the environment and ecosystems.

Similarly, it pollutes drinking water and cements our dependence on fossil fuels.

The Government is completely ignoring local community opposition to this short-sighted and damaging policy, and uses fear-mongering tactics of threatening the loss of power should they not be allowed to pander to corporate shareholders who enrich themselves at the cost of Britain’s communities and ecosystems.

I want to democratise our decisions on energy consumption, safeguard the autonomy of our local communities and protect Britain’s green and pleasant land.
