Help to free yourself from financial problems #CUAW2017

I am backing Greater Manchester Credit Union Awareness Week to support people living and working in Bolton to free themselves of financial problems.

From 16-20 October 2017, Bolton’s local loans and savings provider Hoot is raising awareness of its new partnership of fair lenders across Greater Manchester called SoundPound, to show people that there is a local and ethical alternative that could save borrowers hundreds of pounds.

Too many people are turning to national pay day lenders, expensive credit cards and doorstep lenders, but this can mean that they end up in a cycle of debt that is not easy to break.

Hoot and the SoundPound consortium offers an ethical alternative that is helping to combat this problem, making sure people get a fair deal on a loan, whilst also encouraging saving and keeping money in the local area to the tune of £24 million.

David Batten, Chief Executive of Hoot Credit Union, said:

“We are delighted that Yasmin is showing support to our Credit Union Awareness Week.  We put people at the heart of everything that we do and want to make sure we help as much as we can to help people in Bolton break the cycle of debt for people.

“We know how is it can be to get tricked by shiny offers made by slick national lenders, but we exist to serve our Bolton members – not bankers in London.  We want to make sure you are treated ethically and we would challenge people in to get in touch with us to see how much they could save on a loan compared to national lenders.

“We don’t want you to get spooked by rip off lenders -; whether that be pay day loans, doorstep lenders, expensive credit cards or national lenders – we want you to get local.”
