A Picture of a British Hong Kong Passport
A Picture of a British Hong Kong Passport

There are people within this great nation who are being treated unfairly by our immigration system, despite making huge sacrifices for the good of the United Kingdom by serving in the British Army.

Hundreds of people who were born Commonwealth Citizens were denied UK passports following the handing over of Hong Kong to China in 1997, all because of seemingly erratic Home Office targets.

Until 1997, Hong Kong was a British Colony.  However after the handover, the British Government restricted the number of those who could apply for British Citizenship, and eventually gave only 159 veterans passports.  Now, 295 former service personnel are appealing against the decision to deny them UK Passports.  This is simply unacceptable for people who gave up so much to fight for the British flag.

This is why I urge you to go and sign the 38 Degrees petition to show Sajid Javid that this is wrong.  You can sign the petition at https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/right-of-abode-for-former-british-hong-kong-servicemen

We hope that by doing this, Sajid Javid realises the mistake of the government and gives these people what they deserve: a chance to establish a proper life in Britain.
