I am very pleased to learn that Network Rail has scrapped the 50p charge for toilet usage at 20 stations across the UK, most recently at London Liverpool Street, London King’s Cross and Edinburgh Waverley. Closer to home, you will now notice that Manchester Piccadilly has scrapped its fees as well.

Train journeys across our green and pleasant land contribute to the very fabric of our nation and form part of our identity.  On this basis, I am delighted that rail companies are putting their passengers first, and creating stations that are fully accessible to everybody. It is vitally important the all private enterprises take on their fair share of social responsibility, and work for the people, not just for profit.

I am hopeful that this is an augur of greater things to come for our transport system.
