Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels

I am really worried about the Council’s decision to cut the ‘Meals on Wheels’ service for vulnerable residents of Bolton.

The proposal will lead to the loss of at least 10 jobs and 200 hours of work per week, as well as putting our elderly and vulnerable residents in danger of having no hot food, according to The Bolton News.

I understand that the Council has said that the service will be replaced and that nobody will be left ‘with nothing’, but the details on a replacement service have been scant.

I dearly hope that coherent plans are in place to protect service-users, but I am nevertheless dismayed with the decision.

The Conservative Government has made a string of callous cuts to local authorities, and as you can see, the people who suffer are those who need the most support.  A society should be judged by how it treats its most vulnerable, and in light of that, this is a sad day for Bolton.

I am urging the Council to rethink this proposal and promise the continuation of the service, in order to safeguard the welfare of our vulnerable and elderly residents, as well as the jobs and working hours of its workers.
