Yasmin Qureshi Labour Member of Parliament for Bolton South East
It is disappointing that two years after the law was changed to allow cannabis-based medicines to be prescribed on the NHS, it is still incredibly difficult to access them. Indeed, many families and carers of people affected by severe and treatment resistant epilepsy feel forced to buy these medicines privately, at the cost of up to £2500 every month.
This has been a problem ever since the law was changed to allow the prescription of medicinal cannabis, however, it has still not been fixed. It appears that the Government doesn’t care to solve this issue as long as their friends and allies can continue to profiteer of medicines that should be highly affordable.
I have written to the Prime Minister to ask him to finally resolve the issues around prescribing cannabis-based medicines, so that they can provide long-overdue help to those who need them. I have included a copy of this letter below for you to see.
I can assure you that I will continue to support efforts to make medicinal cannabis available to everyone that needs it.
