Cost of Living & Support for Families
This Labour government is already making a real difference here in our communities.
Supporting Parents with 30 Hours of Free Childcare
Across the country, families are now benefitting from 30 hours of government funded childcare each week. This landmark expansion is easing the pressures of the school run, cutting childcare costs by as much as £7,500 a year, and helping parents return to work with confidence. Locally, families are seeing the impact already, with more high quality school based nursery places opening thanks to Labour’s Plan for Change.
By repurposing empty classrooms into new early years spaces and expanding provision in existing schools, we are making childcare more accessible and more convenient. This gives children the best possible start and gives parents real flexibility to take on more work or pursue new opportunities.
Lifting Children Out of Poverty
One of the most important steps this Labour government has taken is the removal of the two child benefit cap. This change alone has lifted 7,340 children out of poverty locally, giving families the security they deserve and helping ensure no child grows up facing avoidable disadvantage.
Record Funding for Local Communities
In December 2025, Labour put aside major new investment for local authorities across the country. Bolton has received £92.5 million, a rise of 27% from what the Conservatives would have given, while Salford has been allocated £102.3 million, a rise of 28%, to support cleaner streets, better roads and the revival of cherished community hubs.
These numbers tell a simple story. The Conservatives starved local authorities of the resources needed to serve their communities. Labour is delivering the long term investment required to repair that damage and rebuild public services so they work for everyone.
A Fairer Economy and a Better Future
From expanding childcare, to lifting thousands of local children out of poverty, to investing in our towns and strengthening renters’ protections, Labour is keeping its promises. We are rebuilding our economy and renewing our public services so that every family in Bolton and Salford can look ahead with confidence.
