Social housing being built in Little Hulton
Social housing being built in Little Hulton

I know how deeply the housing crisis affects families across Farnworth, Walkden, Little Hulton and our wider community. Too many local people are struggling to find a secure, affordable home, and for far too long the supply of genuinely affordable housing has fallen short of what our area needs.

That is why I am proud that our Labour Government is delivering a bold, ambitious plan to build 1.5 million new homes. This commitment will not only tackle the national shortage but will also help ensure places like Bolton South and Walkden see real, long-term investment in high quality homes.

Alongside this, the Government is investing £39 billion to support the construction of new council and housing association properties. This will help deliver the affordable homes our communities have been crying out for, strengthening neighbourhoods and giving families the security they deserve.

This investment will also bring tangible benefits to our local economy. By backing skills and boosting opportunities in construction and related sectors, the Government is creating an extra 5,000 apprenticeships every year. This means more young people in Bolton South and Walkden will have the chance to build a skilled career, supporting good jobs and helping to drive growth across our area.

This is Labour’s plan in action: delivering homes, creating opportunities and investing in communities like ours. I will continue to work to ensure Bolton South and Walkden receives its fair share of this transformative programme.
