This week I attended an event, hosted by national charity Citizens Advice, which brought together MPs from all parties and health professionals, to highlight the positive impact of advice on people’s health. Research from the charity shows that over 80 per cent of clients say that CAB advice made them less stressed, depressed or anxious.

As well as improving health, advice can also save money. The average cost to the NHS of treating anxiety or depression is £880, whereas the cost of advice per client is £123. This means that each time an advice intervention mitigates the need for GP mental health treatment, there’s a potential saving of over £750.

I’m pleased to support the important work of Bolton Citizens Advice Bureau. Independent, effective advice is not only important for people’s problems, but can actually improve people’s health. I encourage local health professionals to work with Bolton Citizens Advice Bureau to improve the health of our community.
