Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South East, has praised the new opt-out service which allows users across the UK to stop unsolicited and marketing calls to their mobile phones.

Ms Qureshi said: “I have been contacted by a number of constituents about the issue of unsolicited phone calls and I really welcome the work of Ofcom and the Telephone Preference Service on this issue.

“It was the effect these calls were having on the vulnerable which I was most concerned about when I took up this issue, as well as the fact that this is a daily nuisance for many of us.”

The ‘text-to-register’ service  allows mobile phone users to add their number to the UK’s official ‘do not call’ database by texting ‘TPS’ and their email address to 78070.

Once you are on the database it means it is illegal for companies to call you without your permission.
