On 14th July, the Ironman UK event will return to Bolton, and I would urge you to get there and show your support to these impressive athletes.  This is the first time that the full, triathletic version of the Ironman event will roll out to the UK.  There are 40 qualifying spots from this race to reach the Ironman World Championships, held in Hawaii.

The event begins with 2.4, two lap swim of Pennington Flash with a rolling start for all age-group athletes.  There are some spectacular viewing opportunities here.

Cyclists will then embark on a 112-mile, two-loop journey from Pennington Flash and into the breathtaking countryside.  The bike course includes the famous Sheep House Lane and new to 2019 the course now takes athletes into the heart of Bolton with cyclists riding on the cobbles of Le Mans Crescent, where spectators can get up close and personal with the athletes.

The run begins at T2 at Queens Park and athletes will head into Bolton town centre, out and back through Queens Park completing four loops before finishing in Victoria Square.

I am thrilled that this event is returning to Bolton, and hope that these feats of peak physical endurance and prowess will help to inspire the next generation of athletes within my constituency.
