Yasmin Qureshi Labour Member of Parliament for Bolton South East
Two years ago, I visited the anti-fracking protest at Preston New Road, near Blackpool. I was very impressed with how well-organised it was and I spoke to several of the protesters and Police officers on site.
Following my visit, I wrote to Jeremy Corbyn, urging him to visit the site and, a week later, he confirmed his intention to do so whilst at a rally in Bolton. Jeremy has consistently campaigned against fracking, and I am absolutely delighted that he will be visiting the the site at Preston New Road today to reaffirm his support.
I oppose fracking because it is environmentally damaging and very often imposed against the wishes of local communities. This is a very clear case of unsustainble energy being thrust onto a community purely for the sake of profit.
You can read my original report from my visit here and be assured that I continue to campaign against fracking.
