Yasmin Qureshi Labour Member of Parliament for Bolton South East
I am concerned that we are seeing dozens of schools across the UK send home students to self-isolate. Some schools are closing altogether, whilst others are sending whole year groups home. At Spindle Point Primary School in Kearsley, only year 4 are left, after all the other years have been sent home.
We are only in the middle of September, but we have already seen a great deal of upheaval in our schools which has been detrimental to students, teachers, and parents, with no one being able to get back into a routine.
Those students and teachers affected are having to keep flipping from in-person lessons to online lessons and parents are caught between returning to work and having to self-isolate.
Ultimately, the education of our young people must be the priority of the school system, but at the moment, this is being jeopardised.
I have written to the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson, and asked him to review the Government’s current approach to schooling. I have posted a copy of this letter for you to see.
