I have long supported the campaign for buses to have audio visual (AV) communication systems, to make travelling by bus more accessible for people with sight loss or hearing loss.

The Government has been able to mandate this since the Bus Services Act was passed in 2017, but has so far failed to do so.

In 2021, the Government published its National Bus Strategy (NBS), Bus Back Better, which stated that it would create the necessary regulations to mandate AV on buses in Summer 2022, however, this deadline came and went.

I have now written to Mark Harper, the Secretary of State for Transport, and raised this issue with him. I have posted a copy of this letter below for you to see.
