I remain concerned that the Government has been dragging its feet on the Renters’ Reform Bill and its promise to end section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions

Since I wrote to the Prime Minister about this issue last November, the Bill has now passed its First Reading (on 17 May).  However, since then, no date has been set for the Bill’s Second Reading.

Whenever the Government is pressed for a date, Ministers respond by saying: “The Bill’s Second Reading is subject to parliamentary scheduling and will be announced in the usual way.”

I remain disappointed that the Government has not prioritised introducing these reforms, which have cross-party support and which it promised to implement.  The longer it takes, the more people will be served section 21 notices and face potential homelessness.

I can assure you that my Opposition Colleagues and I will continue to press the Government to introduce its promised reforms to the private rented sector as soon as possible.
