Job Title: Communications and Constituency Engagement Officer
Location: Constituency Office in Bolton South and Walkden
Salary: £30,000
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent


I am seeking to recruit a hard-working, skilled, and motivated Communications and Constituency Engagement Officer to join my team.

I am looking for a someone who is passionate about the difference MPs can make to the lives of their constituents and communities, with good organisational skills and strong initiative. Applications are encouraged from those who are keen to make the role their own and support the work of a busy team working on pressing local and national issues.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and arranging constituency visits, on-the-day support and attending events with the MP as required.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with local stakeholders, businesses, charities and other organisations.
  • Working on projects and campaigns to support the MP’s visibility in the constituency.
  • Researching local, regional, and national issues to support the MP’s work.
  • Monitor media coverage, liaise with media, prepare press releases as required (on constituency, non-party-political matters), meeting deadlines as appropriate.
  • Assisting with all external communication presence of the MP’s office through social media, website, mass-mailings and e-Newsletter.
  • Producing graphics and engaging video content for social media and website, monitoring interactions and responding to social media enquiries and comments.
  • Producing proactive and reactive communications.

Essential:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to produce high-quality copy.
  • The ability to handle challenging situations.
  • Politically aware with a strong interest in current affairs; sympathetic to the aims and values of the Labour Party.
  • Understanding and experience of social media platforms including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok.
  • Strong IT Skills alongside experience in producing graphics, filming & editing videos
  • Competency with software such as Canva, Adobe Express and Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritise tasks and manage own workload.
  • Excellent political judgement, proactive and determined to make a positive impact.
  • Ability to create and execute a multi-week, multi-channel communications plan.
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexibly and on some weekends; there may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
  • Full, clean driving licence, and access to own vehicle.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience of managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of how to analyse online metrics to improve future communications
  • Experience of using WordPress and MailChimp.
  • Familiar with Bolton South and Walkden and knowledge of local issues.
