I welcome the Chancellor’s commitments to education, health, and transport — but I’m especially grateful for the £39 billion investment in housing.
In my constituency of Bolton South and Walkden, thousands of families are still waiting for a secure, affordable place to live. Around 20,000 people are on Bolton’s housing waiting list — a number that reflects years of underinvestment and rising housing need.
That’s why I asked the Chancellor directly:
Can some of that funding be used to build more social housing in areas like mine?
The answer was clear: yes.
This investment gives us a real opportunity to tackle the housing crisis and deliver the social and affordable homes our community so urgently needs. I will be working with local authorities and the Department for Housing to make sure Bolton South and Walkden gets its fair share of funding — and that we get shovels in the ground as soon as possible.
Everyone deserves a safe, affordable home. Let’s make it happen.
