As someone who spent years at the Bar, I’ve seen how justice works when it’s properly resourced; and what happens when it’s not.
In this speech, I spoke about the growing crisis in our criminal courts: record delays, barristers leaving the profession, and victims losing faith in the system. Trial by jury is not just a process. It’s a safeguard rooted in public trust.
We must invest in legal and judicial capacity, increase sitting days, and support those working in the system. Reform should strengthen trust, not weaken it.
