I was proud to speak in Parliament in support of the Hillsborough Law, a vital Bill that puts truth, fairness and accountability at the heart of our public institutions.
For decades, families affected by scandals like Hillsborough, contaminated blood, Horizon and Primodos have been forced to fight for justice alone. I have stood with the Primodos families for thirteen years, demanding answers and exposing the culture of cover-up that has denied them the truth.
This Bill introduces a Duty of Candour, a Duty to Assist Investigations, and the principle of Parity of Arms, ensuring families are not silenced or outmatched by powerful institutions.
But we must go further. The duty of candour must apply to all investigations. Responsibility must lie with individuals, not just organisations. And misleading the public must be recognised as harmful in itself.
This is a landmark moment, but we must remain vigilant. For the Hillsborough families, for those affected by Primodos and other scandals, this Bill offers hope. It can change the future.
